A prestigious Champagne and sparkling wine tasting will be held on Thursday May 27, 2010, from 6 to 9pm. The event will be led by Vancouver’s premier Champagne and sparkling wine specialist, Michelle Bouffard and Michaela Morris of house wine, at Gastown’s celebrated Boneta restaurant. Each wine will be paired with famous executive Chef Jérémie Bastien’s exquisite hors d’oeuvres. A fundraising event for Théâtre la Seizième and a stylish evening guaranteed to delight the senses.
Michelle and Michaela will kick off the event by displaying the art of sabering, an elegant, yet spectacular tradition. A splendid selection of Champagnes and sparkling wines including Champagne Alain Thiénot, Crémant from Burgundy, Cava from Spain and Blue Mountain and Sumac Ridge from the Okanagan among many others will then be served, while Bouffard and Morris lead you through the tastings and share with you the unique stories behind each of them. ============================================================ Following are just some of the delicious bubbles that we will be pouring: – Innocent Bystander, Moscato, Yarra Valley, Australia – Crémant de Bourgogne « Simonnet Frebvre » (France)

BIOGRAPHIES
Originally from Quebec, Michelle Bouffard completed her International Sommelier Diploma with top marks in 2003 and today she teaches for the International Sommelier Guild. From 2003 to 2006, she was the resident sommelier at Marquis Wine Cellars. She then continued her wine education with the completion of the internationally recognized Wine & Spirit Education Trust’s (WSET) Programme in 2007. Today, Michelle plays an active role in the wine community, sitting on expert panels for Cornucopia, the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival and the Vancouver Magazine wine awards. She is also a regular guest on French CBC radio. Michaela Morris completed the WSET diploma in 2005 and is currently a guest lecturer for the program, After a 5-year tenure at Marquis Wine Cellars, Michaela worked for 4 years as the Marketing/ Logistics Manager for Liquid Art Fine Wines, a premium-only wine importing company. A familiar face in the wine scene, Michaela has participated on tasting panels for Les Chevaliers des Vins de France, Cornucopia and the Playhouse International Wine Festival. One of the youngest executive chefs in Canada, Jérémie Bastien has previously worked with David Zuddas at the Michelin starred L’Auberge de la Charme (France), Nancy Oaks at Boulevard (San Francisco), Rob Feenie from Lumière Restaurant where he also worked alongside Marc-André Choquette and Jean-Christophe Poirier. Called a « prodigy » by Vancouver Magazine, award-winning and critically-acclaimed Jérémie Bastien is recognized today as one of the key players in Vancouver’s haute-cuisine scene.
