Meet Kate Declerck who recently joined the Théâtre la Seizième team as Community Relations Coordinator. Musician, cultural manager and globe-trotter, Kate is and passionate advocate for the role of the arts in uniting and building understanding among people. She holds a Bachelor of Music from McGill University, and a Masters in Cultural Management from Northumbria University (Newcastle, UK).
What motivated you to join the Théâtre la Seizième team?
I’m particularly interested in Théâtre la Seizième as an organization that addresses and supports the cultural expression of a minority group, and the unique entry point this role allows me to discover and learn about BC’s francophone community.
What do you enjoy about your work and what are the biggest challenges?
My role is essentially about building partnerships that will enable Seizième to grow and connect with more people in the community, which is great fun. The challenge is to convey the qualities and value of la Seizième in words to those who have not yet had the opportunity to experience it, and to stimulate initial interest in its work.
You’ve travelled a lot for work and for fun. What places have captured your heart?
Yes, I love to travel! My greatest experiences have been in Eastern Europe and South East Africa, which are so rich in history and culture, and where most of my time has been spent enjoying great music, food, and conversation.
When you’re not at Seizième we can find you…
Dehors, en train d’explorer la ville. Il me reste tant de choses à découvrir à Vancouver!
