As the only francophone professional theatre company in British Columbia, Théâtre la Seizième is a dynamic creative centre that commissions new works but also presents the most critically-acclaimed and engaging shows from all over Canada. Recipient of several Jessie Richardson awards and national awards, the company has proudly worked with Francophone companies from throughout the country as well as local producers such as the PuSh International Arts Festival, the Vancouver Playhouse, the Vancouver East Cultural Centre and SFU Woodward’s.
YOUNG AUDIENCES SEASON
Since its beginnings, Théâtre la Seizième has created, produced and toured youth audience shows and drama workshops in elementary and secondary French and French immersion schools in Vancouver and all over the country. Over the years, it has become a major resource for schools throughout the country, offer shows That promote critical thinking, support teaching activities and introduce children to theatre. Its Young audience season reached about 21 000 students yearly.
TRAINING AND DRAMATURGICAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
As a well-established institution, we happily take on our artistic leadership role and nurture the artistic community by supporting the professional development of theatre artists through internships, creative workshops and mentorship programs. In 2001, Artistic Director Craig Holzschuh launched an innovative dramaturgical development program to foster creativity by commissioning promising playwrights and providing them with the necessary financial and intellectual support.
