As we have been pretty busy these past few days with our own wonderful play (Moi, dans les ruines rouges du siècle) and have skipped a recommendation or two, we have decided to go 2 for 1 this week to take us through November and early December. Enjoy the shows!
COOL BEANS
Three of our favs, director Rachel Peake (le Portrait Gooble), composer and musical director Mishelle Cuttler (Statu Quo) and designer Drew Facey (Porc-épic), are getting ready to wow us again with their work on Cool Beans, a high-octane musical by Anton Lipovetsky. These three marvelous artists lend their hands to this very caffeinated, not so typical indie café love story. Add to that prices you just can’t beat ($15-$25) and Cool Beans is sure to be a hopping good time (we couldn’t resist the bean reference!!). At Performance Works November 21 to December 1st. |

JACQUES & JAMES
Dancers and choreographers James Gnam (Plastic Orchid Factory, Vancouver) and Jacques Poulin-Denis (Grand Poney, Montreal) met for the first time in 2011 at a residency. The two artists immediately meshed. Two years, three collaborations and several trips throughout the world later, they find themselves in Vancouver to present their slightly autobiographical solo creations. Get ready to laugh and cry at the anti-heroes many challenges in Cible de Dieu. Next, three decades of a life influenced by The Nutcracker unravel before you in James. Most of all, be prepared to see two artists at the top of their game and in total control of their art form as they tell their stories. Jacques & James is presented at the Firehall Arts Centre from December 4 to 7. And because we love to pass along goodies we receive, take advantage of a ticket discount until November 27 by using the promo code SEIZIEME online, over the phone or at the box office. |
