Mrs. President

Since March 19, 2013, Théâtre la Seizième has a new President. Passionate about culture, Véronique St-Antoine starting immersing himself in the arts and entertainment field early on. She worked with several important festivals and cultural organizations, such as le Festival d’été de Québec and the Orchestre symphonique de Québec after completing her studies in Communications. She also worked in the public relations field in Paris,  and her travels have taken her to several places around the world, including India, where she taught French and English as a volunteer in a school in the Himalayas. Véronique joined Théâtre la Seizième’s Board of Directors in 2007.

Which Théâtre la Seizième show impressed you the most? Why?
That’s a hard one! Each play has its own flavour and discourse. I must say I was particularly taken with the children’s play Le Portrait Gooble, presented last year. I loved the imagination of that script and the energy of the actors. I also have great memories of another local production : Lentement la Beauté, which brought together a bunch of Seizième’s favourite actors. Sylvie Drapeau was also stunning in La Liste. I could name more!

Why did you choose to involve yourself with this company?
After moving to Vancouver, I found work in an anglophone environment. I felt the need to be part of something in my first language and in the arts. I have a particular attachment to the theatre and it just seemed natural to join La Seizième’s team.

What do you want to bring to the company as President?
Théâtre la Seizième has an enviable reputation and has positioned itself over the years as a centre for the dissemination of innovative and accessible theatre. I’m thrilled to be able to support the administrative team and the Board of Directors over the next stages of our development. There’s no shortage of ideas and we want to maintain our momentum. At the cusp of our 40th year, the company still has the energy and the projects to captivate and make memories for francophones and francophiles of every age.
