The 2011-12 fundraising campaign is on!

Théâtre la Seizième launched its annual fundraising campaign on June 1st. The company hopes to reach its goal of 10 000 $ or more. This amount will allow us to maintain our programming despite government funding cuts.

Our non-profit organization saw its granting levels fall by more than 23 000 $ last season due to rule changes and cuts at BC Gaming. “This money was used to produce and tour our theatre for young audiences to the province’s schools” explains the Artistic Director Craig Holzschuh. ” We have to find new ways to get the money needed to continue these activities.”

Théâtre la Seizième is one of Canada’s major Francophone theatres that receives some of the least amount of funding because of the low levels of financing for arts and culture in British-Columbia. In fact, the province invests the lowest amount of any province in Canada, with an investment of only about 6.50 $/person while the national average is 27 $/person. Alberta, which is just ahead of British-Columbia on the list, invests 20 $/person in arts and culture, more than three times more.

Donations from individuals and corporations are what allow the company to offer complete and quality programming. “Every one of your gifts counts, each one is precious. By giving, you of course contribute to the stability of the company, but you also help us develop new projects, new initiatives, and new stories”, explains Théâtre la Seizième’s President, Danielle Arcand, in her letter to donors.

In order to encourage a larger amount of donors to give generously, la Seizième has increased the benefits it offers to donors. “Our patrons will be able to reserve their seats, or, dedicate a performance to a person of their choice. We feel that this is the perfect gift to give for someone you care about or to someone who is a lover of the theatre” says Esther Duqette, the Director of Communications and Administration.
