Generous donators wanted

Théâtre la Seizième is launching its fundraising campaign for the 2012-2013 season. This annual event allows the company to fund an important part of the $600,000 needed to present its programming.

Each year, British Columbia’s only professional French-language theatre company offers programming for general audiences, touring shows for schools, theatre workshops as well as an author-in-residence program. Ticket and show sales account for only 25% of our production costs. “In an environment where government funding is increasingly unstable and limited, we’re counting on individual and corporate donors to make up the difference more than ever before,” explains Danielle Arcand, President of the Board of Directors. Your donations allow us to not only offer shows at reasonable rates, but also to finance projects that don’t generate revenue. “Last year, the donations we received allowed us to offer three free shows of Le Portrait Gooble to disadvantaged schools, in addition to developing a new play for teens written by an up-and-coming playwright,” says Craig Holzschuh, Artistic and General Director. Titled Statu Quo, this text has received public readings during festivals in both Montreal and Ottawa.  A full production will be mounted next spring, during the 2012-2013 season. “Your donations make an enormous difference. They allow us to finance concrete projects that promote the talents and creativity of our community – in Vancouver, and on the national stage,” adds Danielle Arcand.

In order to increase the number of people issuing generous donations, Théâtre la Seizième last year enhanced the benefits offered to donors. “Donors may, amongst other benefits, dedicate a performance to the person of their choice. Last season, dedications led to some very touching moments,” mentions Esther Duquette, Communications and Administration Director.
