Did you know? – Spring 2013

It’s springtime! The birds are singing, the trees are budding, and our artists are working. They’re coming up with all kinds of projects – including a few in French – for our viewing pleasure in April and May. As a bonus : great news from the East.

Statu Quo sera présenté au CNA en mars 2014.

The French Theatre Department of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa recently announced its 2013-2014 on April 9th. Amongst the shows to be presented is our very own Théâtre la Seizième production of Statu Quo, by Gilles Poulin-Denis, directed by Craig Holzschuh. The show will also be seen during next year’s Festival Rencontre Théâtre Ados in Laval. Read more

Leclerc, emilie

Emilie Leclerc s’associe à Joey Lespérance pour créer Cucci et Cabana.

Artists Joey Lespérance (Porc-épic, Traces) and Émilie Leclerc (Le Portrait Gooble, L’Enfant-Problème) will be presenting their latest work, Cucci & Cabana, at Vancouver’s Studio 16 from May 2 to 11, 2013. This clown show humourously deals with body image and the social pressures it creates. Physical theatre at its best, presented in French with English surtitles. Read more

My turquoise year

Georgina Beaty, seen last year in Le Portrait Gooble, has been cast in My Turquoise Years, presented at the Arts Club until May 4th. Based on the memoirs of author M.A.C. Farrant, this coming-of-age story brings us back to the 60s, when post-War optimism was at its peak, plastics became a household staple, and turquoise represented the height of fashion. Read more

Rearview

In May and June, Gilles Poulin-Denis will take part in International Rendezvous of Young Dance & Theatre Professionals and Critics, along with 15 other artists from Quebec, Canada and abroad. This gathering is being presented by Festival TransAmériques and allows the participants to see lots of shows, contextualize their respective artistic realities, and participate in workshops, discussions and seminars offered by theatre and dance specialists.

From May 18-24, Revolver Theatre is presenting three readings of note : Porcupine (English version of Porc-épic) by David Paquet, starring actor France Perras in a staged reading by Rachel Peake (Le Portrait Gooble); Rearview by Gilles Poulin-Denis, a smashmouth monologue nominated for a Governor General’s Award in 2010 and winner of two Saskatoon Awards : and Big Shot by Jon Lachlan Stewart (playwright – Le Portrait Gooble), a one-man show which won the Audience Award at the 2012 Fringe.
