What do you think of oil company Enbridge’s pipeline project?  Multidisciplinary artists Anita Rochon (Traces) and Georgina Beaty (Le portrait Gooble) asked that very question to dozens of stakeholders – residents, politicians, members of First Nations communities, activists – during a trip to Canada’s Far North. From this experience, they are creating a new piece, The Pipeline Project, in conjunction with Architect Theatre. Read more

At the heart of Vancouver’s Central Library, Dave Deveau, our playwright-in-residence, has compiled a stunning collection drawn from the Human Library. Some of the titles (Drag Queen, Refugee, Hero) gave Dave the chance to meet face-to-face with men and women possessing a humanity that transcends prejudice. Huam Library will be presented during the PuSh Festival until February 3. Read more

Vancouver artists  Gilles Poulin-Denis and Émilie Leclerc will soon be performing in IShow at Usine C in Montreal.  This perilous theatrical production unites 15 young performers around a table, and subjects them to the unpredictable technology that will force them to make that oh-so-small-but-not-insignificant gesture of checking their smartphone or computer.  A meditation of the excesses engendered by the latest modes of communication.  Read more

Actor Marie-Claire Marcotte, who will be in Studio 16 in April for Gilles Poulin-Denis’ Statu Quo, has just finished writing her first play. Presented by  Saskatoon’s La Troupe du Jour, Coffre-fort  is a burlesque comedy with plenty of twists and turns, in which our septuagenarian hero, Gertrude, is determined to orchestrate her last moments on Earth. From January 31 to February 11, the PuSh Festival presents Qualia, a multimedia performance that promises to dissect the intangible world of perceptions.  This piece was created by graduates of the Douglas College Performing Arts Program, including Corwin Ferguson and Cory Hass, two contributing artists to this spring’s production of Statu Quo. In February, Joey Lespérance and Gilles Poulin-Denis will participate in a creative workshop guided by renowned director and playwright Philippe Soldevilla.  They will work on a new play by  Joëlle Préfontaine, Récolte, which last June won the RBC Award given by the Foundation for the Advancement of French Theatre in Canada (Fondation pour l’avancement du théâtre francophone au Canada).
