During the nomination ceremony at the Theatresports Improv Centre on May 21st, no less than eight nominations for the Jessie Richardson Awards were handed out to acknowledge the high quality of work produced by Théâtre la Seizième and its artists. Both the company’s general audience production of Porc-épic and the production for youth audiences, Statu Quo, shared the many nominations.
On the general audience side, Porc-épic by David Paquet, produced last fall by Théâtre la Seizième in a co-production with L’UniThéâtre from Edmonton, was nominated for “Outstanding Production” in the “Small Theatre” category. The quality of the work of the artists who collaborated on this project did not go unnoticed. The actors, France Perras and Joey Lespérance, where both nominated for “Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role”. And Craig Holzschuh was nominated for the award for “Outstanding Direction”.
Statu Quo by Gilles Poulin-Denis, a play for youth audiences developed though Théâtre la Seizième’s Dramaturgical Development Program, also earned four nominations. Recognized for his ingenious staging, Craig Holzschuh is in the running for “Outstanding Artistic Creation – Direction”, in the “Theatre for Young Audiences” category. The actress Marie-Claire Marcotte who played Sarah, the main character of Statu Quo, was nominated for “Outstanding Performance”. And last but not least, Julie Martens and Corwin Ferguson, were respectively nominated for the production’s set design and videos.

Since the year 2000, Théâtre la Seizième and its artists have received more than 60 awards and nominations from the Jessie Richardson Awards. These prestigious prizes are awarded every year to Vancouver artists, producers and theatre companies who distinguish themselves with the artistic excellence of their work.
