Did You Know? – Spring 2016

Mata Hari

A collaborator with our young audience season, Director Rachel Peake (Selfie, Le Portrait Gooble) recently directed the staging of Mata Hari, a show that traces the life of the iconic dancer and French spy. This Single Line production was presented at the Studio 16 from March 30 to April 3.

Heafey, Jessica

Catch actress, Jessica Heafey (Deux ans de votre vie), on the big screen in Mélanie Jones’ comedy, FSM, presented this week at Vancity, Vancouver, as part of Canadian National Film Week. Heafy plays the sister of the main character, a young DJ from Vancouver seeking a soulmate.

Long-time Seizième collaborator and playwright, Gilles Poulin-Denis, is currently in residence to develop a new piece, Ce qu’on attend de moi, in collaboration with two other artists. This creation, loosely inspired by an essay by neurobiologist Henri Laborit, explores the idea of escape, confronting audiences with a triple absence: that of a show, an actor and each other.

Cory Haas

Actor, Cory Haas (Deux ans de votre vie, Status Quo) is directing Awkward Conversations with Animals I’ve F * cked by Rob Hayes for Stages Theatre Co., this May. True to its title, the work presents a man in search of love in conversation with his animal conquests.

Étienne Lepage

BoucheWHACKED!, the company founded by France Perras and Jack Paterson, presents a series of readings of French texts translated into English as part of the Revolver Festival. This year, you can experience the texts of authors Etienne Lepage, Marie-Claude Verdier and Catherine Léger on May 21 and 22.

France Perras (À toi, pour toujours, ta Marie-Lou, Porc-épic) is currently in Whitehorse rehearsing for a solo show My Brain is Plastic. This independent production that explores the incredible transformative abilities of our brain will be presented at the Magnetic North festival from 14 to 18 June 2016.

Extra-Céleste

Extra-Céleste, a play written by Dave Deveau as part of our Dramaturgical Development Program, continues on its great journey. After a Canadian tour, the show returns to Vancouver. The Green Thumb Theatre production will be presented in French during this year’s Children’s Festival, from June 1 to 3.

Every year, the Arts Club presents LEAP, a playwriting intensive for young writers. With guidance from professional playwrights and actors, these emerging voices develop texts for a public reading presented at the end of the workshop. This year, one of the participating actors is Julie Trépanier, cherished collaborator recently seen in our production of Deux ans de votre vie.
